Description
Event: Singapore Toys, Games and Comics Event 2013 (STGCC 2013)
Series: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Character: Princess Azula
Cosplayer:
Photographer:
It was my first time cosplaying the fierce, slightly deranged but hauntingly beautiful Princess Azula and I was determined to do the best I could. The costume was made of satin and brocade and secured by hidden frog buttons to stay as close as possible to her Asian/ Chinese roots. The boots were a custom order and the wig was styled from a normal flat wig with a middle parting. All accessories were made by yours truly. Unfortunately, I didn't properly secure the top layer of my "cape" causing it to flip with my excessive movements, so pardon the error there.
The ribbons were inspired by when they first showed their method of "bending". At that time, they hadn't revealed their methods of "bending" yet so I made do with what I could. I drew inspiration from gymnasts and Chinese Opera dancers and secured a satin/chiffon material (used by Chinese Opera dancers) to clear acrylic rods. This allowed me to effectively swish and swirl around the cloth with ease. I ripped the ends for a more fluttery/fiery effect and one cloth was longer than the other to create different effects. Much improvements can be made, so I hope to achieve better effects the next time round.
